2023 Season of Creation Call to Action: Ask the Biden Administration to stop fossil fuel expansion and consider the forgiveness of debt of developing nations at COP 28. Learn how.
Our actions include signing a forgiveness of debt letter and organizing local #PrayingForYou #COP28 #SeasonofCreation prayer services and social media efforts!
As Catholics we know that Care for Creation is one of seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching and a requirement of our faith. As the U.S. bishops expressed in their 2001 pastoral statement on climate change, this issue "…is about the future of God's creation and the one human family." Mechanisms to reduce carbon emissions must be explored for the common good, and especially because the poor and future generations will suffer the most harm. The Prove It Act (S-1863) is legislation that is the first step in a carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) process that could provide a significant tool to encourage the lowering of carbon emissions by countries worldwide. CBAMs basically put a price on carbon for goods produced outside the U.S., which is an effective way to lower carbon emissions globally.

CURRENT ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN
ENCOUNTER: A NATIONAL CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR CLIMATE SOLUTIONS
Encounter for Our Common Home is an ongoing national campaign that brings together Catholics across the country to urge our U.S. Senators to enact authentic solutions to the climate crisis. These virtual and in-person encounters with our Senators come from the foundation of our Catholic faith and in accordance with the Laudato Si’ Action Platform.
We are a coalition of U.S. Catholic groups working together for our Common Home. Join Catholic Climate Covenant and our U.S. Catholic partners for this national campaign for climate solutions. This is an advocacy effort in concert with the Vatican’s Laudato Si’ Action Platform (LSAP) activities in the United States.
Sponsors include Caritas North America, Catholic Association of Diocesan Ecumenical and Interreligious Officers, Catholic Climate Covenant, Catholic Health Association of the United States, Franciscan Action Network, Laudato Si' Movement, Leadership Conference of Women Religious, Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns, National Catholic Education Association, Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, and Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ.)
Thank you for being part of this encounter!
