Send a message to U.S. leaders: A Catholic appeal to work together to boldly protect our common home and our future

We invite you to join your voice with thousands of individuals signing this climate action petition across the U.S. Catholic community as a faith-filled appeal to President Biden and the U.S. Congress, to work beyond partisanship and create climate solutions to care for present and future generations and our common home.

This Catholic petition is in solidarity with Catholic institutions that are signing a Catholic climate action letter. We will deliver these united messages during Season of Creation, seeking and praying that they will move the needle of the nation’s moral compass toward the bold and ambitious solutions the nation and world need to address the climate crisis.

Sign the Catholic Petition for U.S. Climate Action, as an individual:

Dear President Biden and Members of the U.S. Congress,

As U.S. Catholics united in the protection of children, generations to come, and our common home, we urgently appeal to you, to come together and lead our nation and world toward a sustainable and thriving future. Please work together beyond partisanship, and for the common good, by enacting ambitious national solutions and demonstrating global leadership that address the sources and threats of climate change, and respond to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.

We call for actions that:

Drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions so that global warming is limited to a 1.5 degrees Celsius increase, thus avoiding the worst impacts of climate change, and
Consistently prioritize the needs of peoples most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change in the design and funding of national and international programs that generate climate resilience, ecosystem restoration and conservation, clean energy and water infrastructure, and just transitions for peoples impacted by the shift to a low-carbon future.

During these urgent times, we ask, as Pope Francis has, “What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up?” (LS 160). We ask you and pray to God that you work together, for at its core, climate change is not about economic theory or political platforms, but about the future of God’s creation and the one human family.
